Welcome Jack Clarke
The wait is finally over: After 517 days, Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed their first signing since the January transfer window. And, as our report had suggested yesterday, the man to break the spell is Leeds United’s exciting teenage winger Jack Clarke.
Stories prior to the confirmed news had also suggested that Clarke would immediately be loaned back to the Championship side and that’s exactly what has happened.
The announcement from the club confirms that Clarke has signed on in a deal that will take him up to 2023. While the exact fee has yet to be revealed, it’s believed to be in the region of £10 million and there is the potential for further add ons if certain clauses are met.
Speaking to the press Clarke said:
I’m delighted to join Tottenham and in the short term, I’ll be giving my all to hopefully help Leeds win promotion.
Jack Clarke made 25 appearances for Leeds United in the 2018/19 campaign but the majority of those were from the substitute’s bench. It therefore seems logical to have taken the loan-back approach and we will obviously follow the player’s progress with great interest next season.
It’s not quite the marquee signing we were hoping for but it’s a start so we say Welcome Jack and while we wait for your debut in a Spurs shirt, it’s good luck for the 2019/20 campaign back at Elland Road.
