Early Comings and Goings

While Spurs fans wait patiently for news of a big signing, there have been some confirmed releases and one new arrival at the new White Hart Lane. Among a crop of youngsters to be shown the exit, reserve keeper Michel Vorm was the biggest name on that released list as he closes the door on five years at the club.

Having stood out at Swansea City, many observers were surprised to see the Dutch International make the switch to Tottenham Hotspur in the first place. Having reached the age of 30, Vorm was seemingly in his prime but Hugo Lloris was the established first choice keeper and he had little chance of usurping the Frenchman.

In time, mistakes saw Michel fall even further down the pecking order as Paulo Gazzaniga became the recognised back up to Hugo. Vorm leaves having played just 47 games across those five seasons and we hope he gets picked up for more game time elsewhere.

There are no confirmed reports regarding Fernando Llorente despite the Spaniard’s name appearing on the Premier League’s initial release list. It had been widely expected that the striker would return to his native Spain but latest rumours suggest that Spurs will offer Llorente another short term contract.

We therefore wave goodbye to Michel Vorm while Fernando Llorente’s future remains uncertain. In the meantime, it’s a warm ‘hello’ to Kion Etete who joins Tottenham from Notts County.

He’s only 17 and plays as a striker and in County’s doomed 2018/19 season, the teenager appeared in six first team games across all competitions. He didn’t manage to score but in a trial game against West Ham United, Ekete found the net twice and subsequently persuaded Spurs to part with a fee that has been reported as £200,000.

Clearly we don’t know what we’re really getting here but can probably assume that Kion Etete will go straight into our development squad. Whether he moves up the pecking order ahead of Troy Parrott and Kazaiah Sterling remains to be seen but we’ll follow his progress with interest,

In the meantime, we still await some really big developments: Christian Eriksen’s future at the club is still open for debate while Monday’s transfer gossip columns seem to have turned their attention to full back Danny Rose. In regards to possible incomings, there lots of names being thrown about, most of whom we already know about.

However, two new players have been linked on Monday with Ajax’s Donny van de Beek and Japan right back Hiroki Sakai getting a mention. We’ll take a look at some of the potential names in greater detail shortly but it’s very much a speculative discussion right now.
